Two kinds of room

AAD’s teaching spaces fall into two groups, and how you run a class depends on which one you’re in:

• Zoom Rooms have a permanently installed camera, microphone, display, and a touch controller on the table. You run the whole meeting from that controller — no laptop required.
• Bring-your-own-device rooms have a display and cable inputs (HDMI/VGA). You connect your own laptop and run Zoom from it, using your laptop’s camera and microphone.

Each building page notes which rooms are which.

Using a Zoom Room

These steps work in any AAD Zoom Room. The controls live on the touch controller on the table.

Start a meeting that’s already scheduled

If someone booked the room for your meeting (through the room’s calendar), the meeting is waiting for you:

1. Wake the touch controller and the room display.
2. Find your meeting in the list and tap Start.

Join a meeting by ID

For a meeting on your own account or someone else’s:

1. On the controller, tap Join.
2. Type the 9-digit Meeting ID and confirm.
3. When you’re done, tap End or Leave so the room is free for the next class.

Share your screen into the meeting

To put your laptop, tablet, or phone on screen during a Zoom meeting:

1. Note the Meeting ID shown on the room display.
2. On your device, open zoom.us/share in a browser.
3. Enter the Meeting ID and choose Share. Your screen appears wirelessly on the room display.
4. Don’t have Zoom installed? Get it from zoom.us/download, then return to zoom.us/share.

Some rooms also have an HDMI cable at the teaching station — plug in for a wired connection instead.

Present without a meeting

To show slides in the room without a Zoom call, use the controller’s Present or Share option, or connect your laptop with the HDMI cable at the teaching station.

Bring-your-own-device rooms

In rooms without a built-in Zoom Room system:

1. Connect your laptop to the display with the HDMI (or VGA) cable at the teaching station.
2. If you’re on a video call, run Zoom from your own laptop and use its camera and microphone.
3. For a larger class, a USB webcam or mic improves how well remote students can see and hear.
